Probota Monastery was included in 1993 in the UNESCO Natural and Cultural World Heritage List both for the artistic uniqueness of this monument and for the quality of being a remarkable example of a structural type characteristic to a historical epoch.
It has faced time for almost 500 years and between 1996 and 2001 extensive restoration, preservation and archeological research work was done here by UNESCO, with the financial support of The Japan Trust Fund, in collaboration with the Romanian Ministry of Culture and the Archbishopric of Suceava and Radauti, work that has rediscovered an unparalleled example of medieval Moldavian art and architecture.
